Sebra came to APASA as a young puppy — scared, small, and not yet aware that the fence she entered would be the same one she'd live behind for the next 15 years.
While her sister was adopted, Sebra stayed. Not because she was sick. Not because she was difficult. But simply because she was overlooked.
She grew up in the shelter. Grew older. Slower. Greyer. And yet through it all - she remained gentle, calm, and endlessly patient.
She would quietly sit, watching with soft eyes, hoping that maybe - one day - someone would stop and see her. Truly see her. That someone would choose her, just as she was.
But no one ever did.
In June 2025, just one day before we launched our new website to spotlight our senior dogs, Sebra passed away.
She never had a home of her own - but in her final days, she was not alone. Thanks to the caring staff at APASA, and the dedicated volunteers, she was surrounded by kindness, held with love, and given the comfort every dog deserves.”
Why Share Sebra’s Story?
Because Sebra is not the only one.
There are so many dogs just like her — gentle, loyal, and full of love — who are still waiting. Not because they did anything wrong. But simply because they are no longer young. Or because they've been overlooked too many times.
Sebra didn’t need much. She loved short walks. A quiet voice. She would sit beside you without asking for anything more than a kind presence. And yet, she waited her entire life.
Her story must not repeat.
Let This Be a Wake-Up Call
No dog should grow old behind shelter walls. No soul that kind should die without ever knowing the warmth of a home.
If Sebra’s story moves you, please - look again.Look past the age. Look beyond the first row of barking dogs. The quiet ones in the back… they’re waiting.
One of them might still be waiting for someone like you. And every one of them deserves a chance that time stole from Sebra.
Rest gently, Sebra. You were seen. You mattered. And your story will not be forgotten. 🕊️
