Bentley’s Last Chapter: A Home After 14 Years

Updated: Jun 22

From shelter walls to a seaside view — Bentley’s story reminds us why every dog deserves a home, no matter their age.

For 14 long years, Bentley — a gentle Labrador mix — lived at APASA. He watched the seasons change and dogs come and go, waiting quietly, patiently, for his turn. Some dogs are with us a few months. Bentley was with us a lifetime.

In April 2024, something extraordinary happened. A woman named Lynda came to visit. She saw not just an old dog, but a soul who still had love to give. She took Bentley home. He finally got what every shelter dog dreams of:A couch to call his own. Soft blankets. Long walks by the sea. Companionship. Love.

Bentley passed away this week, just one year after finding his forever home. But his final chapter was written in peace and love — not in a kennel, but by the side of someone who adored him.Lynda writes:

“He was a very smart and protective dog. I wish I had met him earlier… He knew how much I loved him.”

Bentley’s life reminds us that no dog is ever too old to love — or be loved. Senior dogs are often overlooked, but they are wise, loyal, and endlessly grateful.

At APASA, we will continue to fight for every Bentley still waiting.

Could you be the one to give another senior dog their dream retirement?

Visit our Senior Dogs section or come meet our long-term residents. You might just find your Bentley.
