Beatrice Azarsa

18.10.1946 – 09.01.2022

Our valued member Beatrice Azarsa

Today we sadly had to learn that Beatrice Azarsa passed away last Sunday.

She was with APASA from the very beginning. When our shelter was still in its infancy and the dogs had to be tied to the orange trees for lack of kennels, she took care of the dogs and took them for walks, thus providing a little variety. Later she became involved as a mediator and helped many dogs to find a new home in Switzerland. She picked them up at Kloten airport and brought them to their new owners if necessary. Occasionally, the border veterinarian in charge also had to be encouraged to act purposefully.

In addition, Beatrice had set up an account to which Swiss patrons could transfer their donations. We received the last of these donations last October.

Beatrice was a real dog lover who always had dogs herself. She was particularly fond of poodles and other smaller breeds. Whenever she came across a poodle in the shelter – which was rather rare – she was always very interested in its fate. We remember one story in particular. A little mongrel dog was found in the middle of the street at night and brought to the shelter the next day. The little one could hardly walk and did not want to eat. Beatrice

took care of her and in the end took her to Switzerland. A short time later, an owner came

to the shelter and asked for her pet back. It turned out that Tula or Cosita, as she was properly called, was over twenty years old. Of course Beatrice did everything she could to get Cosita back to her owner. To this day, Cosita/Tula is by far the oldest dog ever relinquished to APASA.

With her friendly, obliging manner, Beatrice has made many friends at APASA and in life as well. We are very sorry that she has now left us forever and we will always be grateful to her. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.
